Want to make a real difference to Dover’s children, right now?
You can do it through our local End 68 Hours of Hunger program where your contribution of a can of tuna or a jar of peanut butter is the difference between healthy food or a growling stomach for some local children over the weekend. The program coordinates with the Dover School System to send bags of food home on Friday afternoons with children identified by school nurses.
The “68 Hours” is the time between Friday evening and Monday morning when eligible children are most at risk of being hungry. The children often participate in their school’s breakfast and lunch programs.
The first food collection of the 22/23 school year will be on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 am to 12pm at St. John’s Church on Cataract Ave, Dover. Collections are at this location and time each Saturday. A list of the needed foods is below. Every can, jar or box of food makes a difference. Items needed are:
- Peanut Butter – 18 oz plastic
- Saltines / Graham Crackers
- Canned Beef Stew
- Canned Pasta – Beefaroni, Ravioli
- Canned Soup – 12-20 oz size
- Hormel Complete Meals
- Macaroni and Cheese
